We Got What We Said We Wanted

We did it.
A perfect world.

No crime.
No heartbreak.
No unwashed children in ragtag
slums waiting for their mama.

No dictators.
No rising passions.
No hopeful glances
across a crowded room.

Yet—

Was this what we wanted?
Was this why, at 3 a.m.,
we argued
over possessive or singular?

I don’t have the answers.
And yet, we must have them all.

But in the solving,
we lost ourselves.
